I tried this in Windows 7 but it didn't work (I understand this is a testing version) I've got an error "invalid value for permision(0)" so I just want to let you know. Have you got this error?

Thnx.

Hi VIKO,

Make sure you are subscribed to the dev channel. dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

I am running Google Chrome 4.0.220.1 on Windows

#1 Viko -

I encountered the same prob. To fix it make sure you follow all the steps - even if they don't look the same:

1. click "subscribe now" under prerequisites above.

2. On that page, under "Before you change channels", make a backup copy of your Chrome/userdata/Default directory

a. you may have to enable "show hidden files" to find the "appdata" folder

b. you WILL have to close Chrome to "paste" your new copy. (Instead of putting the copy into the Chrome folder, I created a folder for it elsewhere, in case that whole Chrome folder messes up.) The copy will NOT paste while Chrome is in use.

(btw, if you don't want to lose all the open tabs you're doing all this for ... then BEFORE you close Chrome, click the wrench [upper right of screen] > Options > Basics > On Startup > restore the pages that were opened last.)

3. If, like me, you get refused to download the "installer for the desired channel" (I got "Error: second elevation attempted"), then you'll need to use the "channel changer", one line below the installer link.

4. Now we're on the page I got your error msg from. Nothing worked for me, so I had to edit the registry, something I'd never done before. But the instructions are easy on this new page ... after you GET to regedit.

a. To launch regedit (in Vista), click the Windows orb and in the dialog box type the word regedit and hit enter. (You won't find it on any menu, nor will it open by typing part of the word)

b. When it opens, skip the "navigate to" instructions on the channel changer instructions and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Google > Update > ClientState

c. Open the folder with the number listed in channel changer and you will see that there is ALREADY a "new string value" named "ap". Don't make a new one.

d. Instead, just highlight the word "-full" under the "data" column and change it to read "2.0-dev"

e. close the regedit "registry editor" window. No need to confirm or submit anything. Once you're done typing, it's done

5. Now close Chrome browser again -- leave all your open tabs on there, they are no problem

6. Restart Chrome, click the wrench again > About Google Chrome. THIS time you'll be asked if you want to update :) .

7. Say yes, wait for the install, etc., Close Chrome, reopen and CTRL-SHIFT-D will work for you!

Regards!

(super thanks m0!)

"We didn't implement it into the browser because we felt that is really a *feature* that people could download."

Really?

You thought that such a basic feature wasn't necessary and that the users should be forced to use a dev build just to get that functionality?

Thanks but I'd rather bookmark all my tabs manually, it's really an extremely boring and surprisingly time consuming task but there's no sensible alternative.

Honestly, one of the biggest let-downs of the whole Chrome browser, I've always thought that I was too stupid to even find the "*feature*".

Any chance of adding a preference to set the default location to save the new bookmarked session to? I'd like to have a Sessions/ bookmark folder, and have the sessions bookmarked through this extension be auto-stored there.

Thanks for sharing this!

Hi,

It is really a great job. I was searching this for a long while.

Luckily got it from your site.

Very very helpful to us.
